Havana, March 15 (RHC) – The Cuban Journalists Association, UPEC, announced it will be holding a national congress in 2018.
Reading the congress proclamation, in Santiago de Cuba, during functions marking National Press Day, UPEC President Antonio Moltó said the organization is aware that its national gathering would be taking place at a time of increased cultural and technological challenges for the profession.
The proclamation says Cuban journalists have ahead of themselves “the urgent task” of changing Cuba's press model, answering the demands that both media professionals and society as a whole have been making.
The documents notes that this demanded form of “more profound, critical and analytical journalism” is already appearing, especially among provincial news outlets, leaving behind the apologetic, triumphalistic language for a more realistic, reasoned out and balanced expression in their portrait of daily life in the country.
The 2018 congress of the Cuban journalists association will mark the 10th time that Cuban media professionals meet nationally since the organization was established in 1963.
